Solar finance originator

Solar finance glossary · South Africa

Quick definition

A solar finance originator is a party or platform that prepares, structures and submits a solar finance application to funders on behalf of the end customer and the installer, so that the deal arrives at a credit committee complete, consistent and comparable across funding structures.

Origination sits between the sales process and the lending decision. The originator gathers the customer's financial and company documents, models the system's energy savings against the proposed repayment, prepares the financial proposal and the underwriting summary, and routes the application to the funders whose criteria match the deal. The credit decision itself always remains with the funder.

In South Africa the originator role has become important because most EPCs and installers are engineering businesses, not finance businesses, while most funders will not process an incomplete application. A structured origination step shortens time-to-decision and reduces the number of deals that stall after the quote.

ArkFlow is a software platform that facilitates origination: it is not a lender, credit provider or financial services provider, and it does not make credit decisions.

What Is a Solar Finance Originator?

A solar finance originator turns a solar quote into a fundable deal and matches it to a lender. Here is what originators do and how EPCs become one.

ArkFlow is a software platform that facilitates solar finance origination. It is not a bank, lender, credit provider, tax adviser or financial adviser. This definition is general information, not a credit offer or advice. Funders make their own credit decisions and tax treatment should be confirmed with a registered practitioner.
