Indicative proposal
Solar finance glossary · South Africa
Quick definition
An indicative proposal is a preliminary document that shows a prospective customer what a solar system is likely to cost per month under one or more finance structures, and how that compares with their current electricity spend, before any credit assessment has taken place.
It is built from a small number of inputs: the system size and price from the installer's quote, the customer's consumption and tariff, and standard assumptions on term, interest rate, escalation and degradation. Its purpose is to let the customer decide whether to proceed to a full application, and to let the installer qualify interest early rather than after weeks of paperwork.
An indicative proposal is not a credit offer, a quotation of rate, or a binding term sheet. The figures change once the funder reviews the customer's financials and applies its own pricing. In South African practice, it is typically followed by prequalification and then a financial proposal with firmer numbers.
ArkFlow is a software platform that facilitates generating an indicative proposal automatically from a quote and a load profile.
